Haikus
Written by Touria Nakkouch
A dog howling in the night:
The trumpets of war,
Troubling the quiet of the East.
Our two bodies in furs,
A wild rhapsody
Cutting out all music but ours.
Lavish mouthfuls of a child!
Time devouring time
Leaving some grey hairs behind.
Troy hit - Ulysses at work;
The cute fire you lit
That morning before you left.
Brave heroic spring morn!
Outlasting with your fragrant buzzing breeze
The dull brightness of the African scene.
To resent the barren year some joy!
I can’t tell which of the two
Is more cruel, April or you.
