Andrew Hussey
Andrew Hussey was born in Liverpool in 1963. He is an academic and journalist. His books include studies of Georges Bataille, a critically acclaimed biography of Guy Debord (The Game of War, 2001) and, most recently, Paris-The Secret History, described by the London Observer as 'simply magnificent' and the New York Times as 'compelling, extraordinary and brilliant'. He writes regularly for the Observer (where he is Contributing Editor to Observer Sports Monthly) and the Guardian and contributes a monthly column on European Affairs for the New Statesman. As a journalist he has reported, amongst other places, from Beirut and Kurdistan and was British Council Writer-in-Residence in Morocco in 2002.
He is currently writing a study of revolutionary passions in the 18th century and planning a cultural history of France and Islam. As an academic, he is Head of French and Comparative Studies at University of London Institute in Paris (ULIP). He lives in Paris.
